At White & Case, we are committed to the development of our lawyers. Our goal is to align our Professional Development efforts with the Firm's objectives and the work demands and expectations of our lawyers to ensure that our career development and training programs meet the needs of the individual, the Firm and our clients. Professional Development at White & Case is made up of a number of elements: work assignments, training courses, mentoring and support, feedback and formal reviews.
All of our customized programs are developed, refined and taught in conjunction with leading instructors and experts in the country to provide you with invaluable skills and best practices. You're not "off the shelf." Neither are your training courses. Your course progress is closely monitored and through normal sequencing, you'll more than meet your continuing legal education training requirements (we're an accredited CLE provider in New York, California, England and Wales).
And, just in case you're wondering, as you gain experience, you can teach—and that counts as billable time. That's how important we consider your development.
The White & Case Center for Career Development The Center for Career Development provides associates with a centralized learning and development site for all of our training programs offered globally (both live and recorded sessions). The searchable database provides associates the opportunity to register for programs through the site and provides information regarding the internal and external resources available for their development.
White & Case is an accredited provider of Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) in various jurisdictions and most of our training programs qualify for MCLE credit.
Professional Skills Institute Programming Professional Skills Institute (PSI) events are an important element of the Firm's overall skills training program for associates. PSI events are designed to complement and enhance the skills training that is provided in individual offices as part of the Firm's overall program of skills training for associates under the Center for Career Development. These unique training programs draw participants from multiple offices in a particular region, providing opportunities for associates to meet and work together and develop contacts that they can use when they return to their desks. By providing these opportunities, PSI events improve integration across White & Case in support of the "One Firm" initiative. Courses include: Mini MBA Workshops for Junior and Senior Associates, trial advocacy training, and business skills development training.
Section-Specific Training Each section offers training programs that ensure Associates continue to consolidate and improve their legal knowledge as well as have the opportunity to acquire and develop new skills. The training curriculums are comprehensive, ensuring that Associates are familiar with and understand the foundations of various legal mechanics and documents. Topical seminars are often given to address innovations and developments in our practice areas.
Sample section-specific courses include: Sources of Funds for Infrastructure Deals in Today's Market, Legal Opinions, Financial Ratios, Expert Witnesses, Multijurisdictional Conflicts of Interest, Introduction to Derivatives and Their Use in Finance Transactions, Taking and Defending Depositions and Letters of Intent.
We also offer seminars on ethical issues.
New Associate Orientation New Associates in our US offices participate in a week-long orientation program hosted in New York. The schedule is specifically tailored to introduce New Associates to the Firm, its culture and vision, as well as provide ample opportunity for you to meet and interact with partners and your classmates. Orientation includes substantive training, teambuilding and social events. At the end of the week, you will be ready to start your career at the Firm.
