TRAINING

At White & Case, we are committed to the development of our lawyers. Our goal is to align our Professional Development efforts with the Firm's objectives and the work demands and expectations of our lawyers to ensure that our career development and training programs meet the needs of the individual, the Firm and our clients. Professional Development at White & Case is made up of a number of elements: work assignments, training courses, mentoring and support, feedback and formal reviews.

All of our customized programs are developed, refined and taught in conjunction with leading instructors and experts in the country to provide you with invaluable skills and best practices. You're not "off the shelf." Neither are your training courses. Your course progress is closely monitored and through normal sequencing, you'll more than meet your continuing legal education training requirements (we're an accredited CLE provider in New York, California, England and Wales).

And, just in case you're wondering, as you gain experience, you can teach—and that counts as billable time. That's how important we consider your development.

Professional Skills Institute Programming
The Professional Skills Institute is designed to enhance Associates' practical experience and give them the business and legal skills they need to succeed as effective practitioners at a global law firm. The Institute serves as an umbrella for all of White & Case's training courses where participants are drawn from around our global network. Courses include: business skills training, Mini MBA training for Junior and Senior Associates, trial advocacy training, legal writing and communication skills.

Mini MBA Workshop
This three-day interactive workshop will cover business analysis and management in the areas of accounting, valuation, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, purchase accounting adjustments, and corporate strategy. The program will provide insight into how the performance of businesses are measured and analyzed, as well as the overall strategies businesses deploy to achieve their goals and objectives.

The various modules in the program include exercises and case studies of a leading global automotive company taught by leading experts in the industry including investment banking, accounting and top-tier business schools.

Section-Specific Training
Each section offers training programs that ensure Associates continue to consolidate and improve their legal knowledge as well as have the opportunity to acquire and develop new skills. The training curriculums are comprehensive, ensuring that Associates are familiar with and understand the foundations of various legal mechanics and documents. Topical seminars are often given to address innovations and developments in our various practice areas.

Sample section-specific courses include: Sources of Funds for Infrastructure Deals in Today's Market, Legal Opinions, Financial Ratios, Expert Witnesses, Multijurisdictional Conflicts of Interest, Introduction to Derivatives and Their Use in Finance Transactions, Taking and Defending Depositions and Letters of Intent.

We also offer quarterly seminars on ethical issues.

Training programs from our offices in Europe, the Middle East and Asia are often available for videoconference or webcast. In addition, we maintain a library of recorded seminars in an online database that all lawyers can access.

White & Case is an accredited provider of Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) in various jurisdictions and most of our training programs qualify for MCLE credit.

New Associate Orientation
New Associates in our US offices participate in a week-long orientation program hosted in New York. The schedule is specifically tailored to introduce new Associates to the Firm, its culture and vision, as well as provide ample opportunity for you to meet and interact with partners and your classmates. Orientation includes substantive training, teambuilding and social events. At the end of the week, you will be ready for your first assignment in your home office and the start of your career at the Firm.
