> professional development MORE THAN LAWYERING
The simple fact of big-firm life is that you will work hard and sometimes have unpredictable hours. That's part of the deal. On the other hand, life is not all about work.
The Firm encourages and supports Associate participation in sports and other social activities.
Social Events Regional sections have established Partner/Associate social committees that organize morale-boosting events such as trivia nights, cocktail parties and community service projects.
Sporting Activities In 2012, the Firm will sponsor the White & Case Football and Volleyball World Cup in Bratislava, Slovakia. Associates are invited to participate or simply cheer on their favorite team. Last year's World Cup was held in Frankfurt, Germany and was a big success. Offices also participate in softball, basketball, bowling, tennis and other local sporting leagues.
Recruiting Associates in each office take an active role in our recruiting efforts. This includes staffing our hospitality suites during on-campus interviews, interviewing students and representing the Firm on panels, presentations and "meet and greets" at the law schools.
Affinity Groups Our attorney-driven affinity groups are open to all lawyers and business services personnel. These groups organize social and cultural events throughout the year and also provide their members with an opportunity to support and mentor each other.
Partner Meetings Each office holds a Town Hall meeting that includes information about Firm finances, professional development initiatives, recruiting outcomes and Firm goals for the upcoming year. Section meetings are also held throughout the year. These meetings serve as a forum to provide updates about the Firm and specific practice areas, and also allow for casual interaction between partners and associates. All meetings include Q&A sessions and associates have the opportunity to ask questions either directly or anonymously.
Alumni Functions We know that as your career progresses, you will have many options as you gain valuable experience and broaden your interests. We understand that many of you will eventually choose to go elsewhere—some to clients or in-house positions or you may decide to pursue non-legal work. Our view is that once you have worked here, you will always be a White & Case lawyer, and we host alumni events so we can keep in touch.
